Great Lakes Radio is an independent radio and media network created around a simple idea:
Radio should be interesting.
We're building a place for conversation, music, spirituality, philosophy, creativity, storytelling, community, history, entertainment and the wonderfully unexpected things you don't always find on conventional radio.
Rooted in Western New York and inspired by the Great Lakes, we bring together original programming, interesting ideas, old wisdom, new perspectives and people with stories worth hearing.
Some programs make you think.
Some tell a story.
Some introduce you to someone you might never otherwise meet.
And some are simply here because they're fun.
INDEPENDENT BY DESIGN
We're independent, and we like it that way.
Great Lakes Radio isn't built around corporate programming decisions, focus groups or algorithms deciding what you should hear next.
Our programming reflects the interests, curiosity and personalities of the people behind the microphones.
That means one conversation might explore consciousness and human potential, another might wander into ancient philosophy or Great Lakes history, and the next could involve independent music, life with animals or a Dungeons & Dragons adventure.
Sometimes thoughtful. Sometimes unusual. Sometimes fun. Always human.
PEOPLE ARE MORE INTERESTING THAN ADS
The Great Lakes are filled with fascinating people.
Business owners. Artists. Historians. Makers. Community leaders. Musicians. Entrepreneurs. Storytellers. People preserving something old and people creating something completely new.
Instead of interrupting our programming to tell you about them through conventional advertising, we'd rather sit down and talk with them.
We want to know how something began, what they've learned, what they're creating, what they care about and why their work matters to the community around them.
Because we'd much rather hear the story behind a business than a commercial for it.

You'll hear Great Lakes people, places, businesses, stories, history and culture woven throughout our programming.
But Great Lakes Radio isn't limited by the shoreline.
You don't have to live near the lakes to listen.

There isn't one subject that defines Great Lakes Radio.
That's intentional.
We're curious about spirituality and philosophy. Human potential and mindfulness. Ancient works and forgotten history. Music and storytelling. Animals and homesteading. Community and creativity. Games, ideas and the strange turns that ordinary life sometimes takes.
If something makes us stop and say:

there's a pretty good chance we'll want to talk about it.
