COMMUNITY

Great Lakes Radio is more than something to listen to.

It's a place to discover the people, places, history, ideas and stories that make the Great Lakes interesting.

From small towns and family businesses to artists, historians, farmers, creators, community leaders and people doing something completely unexpected, there are stories all around us.

We want to hear them.

AROUND THE GREAT LAKES

There's always something happening somewhere around the Lakes.

This is where we'll share interesting places, community events, local happenings, history, traditions, discoveries and other things we think are worth knowing about.

It might be a festival.

A historic building.

A strange piece of local history.

A beautiful place you've driven past a hundred times.

A tiny business doing something remarkable.

Or simply something happening nearby that made us stop and say:

“People should know about this.”

GREAT LAKES VOICES

The most interesting part of a community is usually its people.

Great Lakes Radio talks with business owners, artists, musicians, historians, farmers, makers, clergy, community leaders, creators, entrepreneurs and other interesting people from throughout the Great Lakes region.

These aren't commercials.

They're conversations.

We want to know:

How did you get started?

Why do you do what you do?

What have you learned along the way?

What makes your community special?

And what story do you think people should hear?

You may hear these conversations on programs including What is a god?, The Lantern Tree, and elsewhere throughout Great Lakes Radio.

STORIES FROM WHERE WE LIVE

Every community has stories.

Some are written down.

Some have been passed from one person to another for generations.

And some are sitting in the memory of someone who has lived there long enough to remember when everything looked completely different.

Great Lakes Radio is interested in local history, folklore, traditions, forgotten places, old businesses, historic events and the everyday stories that help explain how our communities became what they are today.

Sometimes history isn't sitting in a museum.

Sometimes it's sitting across the table from you.

HAVE SOMETHING INTERESTING TO SHARE?

Know about an upcoming event?

Is there an unusual place we should visit?

Do you know someone with a fascinating story?

Are you preserving a piece of Great Lakes history?

Have you built a business, created something unusual, started a community project or simply know about something happening that deserves a closer look?

Tell us about it.

We can't promise that everything submitted will become part of Great Lakes Radio, but we're always interested in discovering what the people around the Lakes are doing.

Because some of the best stories are the ones you only find when somebody says:

“You should really talk to this person…”

Local Roots. Great Lakes. Global Reach.
