GAMING

Games are more than something we play.

They're stories we build together.

They're worlds we explore, characters we become, problems we try to solve and occasionally very elaborate ways of discovering that absolutely nobody at the table had a sensible plan.

Gaming brings together imagination, storytelling, strategy, creativity, humor and the wonderful unpredictability of human beings making decisions together.

Welcome to the gaming side of Great Lakes Radio.

DUNGEONS & DRAGONS STORYTIME

with Dungeon Master John

The dice are ready. The story isn't.

Dungeons & Dragons Storytime turns tabletop roleplaying into something listeners can enjoy as an unfolding story.

Dungeon Master John creates the world, introduces its characters, sets the adventure in motion and then does something every Dungeon Master eventually learns to accept:

lets the players loose in it.

From there, anything can happen.

Heroes emerge.

Plans fall apart.

Characters make questionable decisions.

A lucky roll can change everything.

And an adventure that seemed to be heading in one direction can suddenly wander somewhere nobody expected.

That's the magic of Dungeons & Dragons.

Nobody knows exactly how the story ends — because we're creating it as we go.

YOU DON'T HAVE TO PLAY D&D

You don't need to know the rules.

You don't need a character sheet.

You don't need dice.

And you definitely don't need to know the difference between a wizard, warlock and sorcerer before you tune in.

If you enjoy fantasy, adventure, characters, humor, storytelling and seeing what happens when people are handed an imaginary world and allowed to make their own choices, you're already qualified.

Just bring your imagination.

THE STORY IS THE GAME

What makes tabletop roleplaying different from most other games is that winning isn't really the point.

The experience is.

Every person around the table contributes something to a story that didn't exist before they sat down.

Dungeon Master John may build the world...

but the people inside it determine what happens next.

That's why two groups can begin with exactly the same adventure and tell two completely different stories.

The game becomes the story — and the story becomes something everybody created together.

GREAT LAKES GAMES NETWORK

The adventure doesn't end when the radio turns off.

Great Lakes Radio is only one part of our gaming world.

Great Lakes Games Network is about bringing tabletop gaming into the community — connecting players, gaming groups, game stores, venues and others who share a love of games and the experiences created around the table.

It's about discovering places to play, meeting people who play, supporting the businesses and organizations that make in-person gaming possible, and helping strengthen gaming communities throughout the Great Lakes region.

Because some of the best adventures don't begin online.

They begin when people sit down at a table together.
